NOTE TO STUDENTS: Before you purchase any clay to be used in the classroom, you need to clear it with your instructor, learn the protocols for wedging and reclaiming, and where to store it. Do not purchase for in-studio use until you get their sign off. Please note that any clay that does not fire to white of off-white is considered a “dark” clay and should not be wedged on the classroom wedging tables, but on the dark clay wedging board stored in the Private Wheel Room.   • Laguna MC65 Smooth White Stoneware ($30 – 25 lb. bag)

    A good all-around midrange stoneware body that works well for production of functional whiteware.

    Avg. Shrinkage 2±%: 13%
    Avg. Water Absorption 1±%: 1%

  • Standard 240 White Stoneware ($27 – 25 lb. bag)

    Great white stoneware body with smooth, plastic qualities. This clay is great for throwing.

    Shrinkage: 13% at C/6
    Absorption: 2.75% at C/6

  • Laguna MC60 Bleeding Speck Clay ($30 – 25 lb. bag)

    This clay is compounded to be a stoneware clay with specks that bleed through the glaze, giving the appearance of iron burning through.  (Substitute: Standard S760)

    Avg. Shrinkage 2±%: 10.9%
    Avg. Water Absorption 1±%: 1.7%

  • Standard 112 Speckled Brown ($27 – 25 lb. bag)

    A plastic clay for wheel throwing and modeling. Manganese gives off speckling surface. The ideal temperature for the best color tone results is cone 5. This clay can deliver good results in both oxidation and reduction. Image shows clay in Cone 6 oxidation. Please note that these speckles will show through many glazes, which creates a very pleasant and variegated effect.

    Shrinkage: 12% at C/4, 12.5% at C/6.
    Absorption: 4.5% at C/4, 2.5% at C/6.

  • Fine Spec Favorite ($30 – 25 lb. bag)

    Light sand color with fine specks. Excellent cone 6 throwing body which enhances glaze colors and effects. There is no better all around throwing body available for the stoneware look. Fine speckling shows through glazes enhancing the piece. Cone: 6

  • Standard 308 Brooklyn Red  ($28 – 25 lb. bag)

    Red stoneware body with sand and grog. This clay fired to a deep red color at cone 6.

    Shrinkage: 12% at C/4, 13% at C/8.
    Absorption: 2.5% at C/4, 1.0% at C/8.

  • Kentucky Mud – Brown Bear ($32 – 25 lb. bag)

    A super smooth, plastic body that fires a dark chocolate brown at cones 5-7. Matures at cone 5-6. Won’t bloat at cone 7 if fired slow through the last 300-400F. Contains no grog. This body gives a nice warmth to glazes, giving that reduction look in oxidation.

    Shrinkage 11% Abs at cone 6 0.4%

  • Sio2 PRNF Black Sculpture Clay ($42 – 27.5 lb. bag)

    C/5-7

    Firing shrinkage at Cone 7: 4.5%

    Black sculpture clay body with 40% fine grog (up to 35 Mesh). Formulated for artistic ceramics, it is ideal for sculpture. The high content of grog confers a beautiful textured surface and an excellent behavior during drying and firing. Its beautiful and intense black firing color in oxidizing atmosphere is very exclusive of PRN range and becomes an ideal artistic mean of expression. In reducing atmosphere, metallic effects with shades of blue are obtained. Available in extruded body (moist form).

    A white body formulated for C/6 firing. Plastic and throwable.

  • Laguna MC16 Porcelain w/ Ball ($50 – 25 lb. bag)*

    Excellent grolleg porcelain body for throwing thin work at midrange temperatures around cone 6. This is a translucent porcelain.

    Avg. Water Absorption 1±%: 0.12%

    *Occasional sub is Standard 365 English Porcelain

    Porcelain body with a parian like quality. It’s white, tight and translucent when thin. Contains no ball clay.

  • Sio-2 AENTO White Porcelain
    Sold in 11 pound bags

    ANETO is a translucent white porcelain which stands out for its high plasticity, and makes it exceptional for wheel-throwing and modelling. Its formula is very stable and provides a secure firing range between 1230 and 1270ºC. Suitable for tableware (food-safe), according to ISO 6486. Available in extruded body (moist form). Presented in a practical 11 lb cylindrical format with double packaging.

    Firing range: Cone 6-8 (2246º-2318ºF / 1230-1270ºC)
    Firing shrinkage at Cone 7: 9.8%

  • Slip Porcelain Antique White ($50 – 1 gallon jug)

    Cone 5-6. Laguna Fine Porcelain Slips are ideal for dolls and other high-end porcelain applications. These liquid slips are carefully screened and ferro filtered for exceptional purity. The three white variations are semi-translucent.

    Antique White offers more of a “cameo white” look than cool whites.
